Hijab-wearing model kicks off Milan Fashion Week

MILAN — Day one of Milan Fashion Week kicked off with a nod to diversity.

Hijab-wearing model Halima Aden, fresh off her Yeezy Season 5 fashion show appearance, made her Milan debut on the Alberta Ferretti runway in a cast that included other major models of the moment, sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid.

Clad in a navy-and-black striped belted coat with flared pants styled Vevobahis underneath, the 19-year-old Somali-American walked the runway like a pro.

One of her biggest advocates, CR Fashion Book Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld, who also just featured Aden on the the newest cover of her edgy mag, was seated front row.
