Iranian Consulate in Paris: an individual suspected of transporting an explosive device was arrested

A large security perimeter was deployed on Friday April 19 at midday around the consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran, rue Fresnel, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. The security services were informed of the presence on site of an individual suspected of transporting an explosive device. The man was arrested, the police headquarters announced to Agence France-Presse (AFP). A survey is underway on the premises.

Nicolas K-M., aged 60, has dual French and Iranian nationality. According to the police, the man did not have any explosives on him and is unknown to the intelligence services. He had already been arrested and interviewed by the judicial police on September 11, 2023, after setting a tire on fire in front of the consulate the day before.

He is wearing a tactical vest with dummy grenades, according to information from Le Monde.

The police headquarters’ research and intervention brigade (BRI) was mobilized. According to RATP, metro line 6 was closed in the area between La Motte-Picquet – Grenelle and Charles-de-Gaulle – Etoile stations.
