“Selfi”, “meme”, “brotherhood”, “self-portrait”, “escrache”… new words of the dictionary of the RAE

Also introduces a change in the meaning of “mistreat”, to include for the first time to the animals.

The Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), has presented this Friday, December 21, developments dictionary digital, which includes words like “selfi”, “self-portrait”, “meme”, “escrache” or “sisterhood”. The RAE has also accepted a change in the meaning of “abuse”, including for the first time the animals in the definition of this action.

Also, notable among the changes to the dictionary digital a new meaning of “femicide”, which happens to be the “murder of a woman at the hands of a man by machismo or misogyny.” As has been clarified by the director of the academy at functions, Darío Villanueva, the novelty is that they “now refers to the action of a man”.

The academic Paz Battaner has presented at the headquarters of the academy these developments, which also include other new words such as “viralise” “cyberarts” or “ISO”, plus the addition of new meanings to other as ‘todólogo” -in this case, derogatory, – or ‘smoke’ -for something “without relevance”-.
