The Royal Thai Marine Corps (RTMC) has recently upgraded its fleet with the acquisition of seven cutting-edge 8×8 Armored Wheeled Amphibious Vehicles (AWAVs) manufactured by Thai defense company Chaiseri. These state-of-the-art vehicles, known as the First Win II, have been delivered to the RTMC’s Assault Amphibian Vehicle Battalion in Sattahip, bolstering Thailand’s military capabilities.

The First Win II is a game-changer for the Thai Marines, offering versatility in both land and water environments. With impressive specifications, including a length of 9.2 meters, height of 3 meters, width of 3.1 meters, and weight of approximately 25.7 tons, these vehicles are designed for optimal performance in various terrains and combat scenarios. Powered by a 711 hp engine, the AWAVs can reach speeds of up to 105 kilometers per hour on land and 10 kilometers per hour in water, allowing for swift deployment and maneuverability in amphibious operations.

In addition to mobility, the Chaiseri AWAVs are equipped with advanced offensive and defensive capabilities. Each vehicle features the Guardian 1.5 Remote Weapon Station, which includes a 12.7 mm machine gun and 76 mm smoke grenade launchers. With a ballistic protection level of STANAG 4569 Level 3 and mine protection, these vehicles prioritize crew safety while engaging threats effectively. Furthermore, each AWAV can transport 11 troops along with its three-person crew, making it a valuable asset for military operations.

The acquisition of these seven AWAVs is part of a larger contract worth 448 million Thai baht ($13.5 million), signifying Thailand’s commitment to modernizing its military forces. The successful completion of this contract within a year showcases the efficiency and reliability of Thailand’s defense industry. As these vehicles are integrated into the RTMC’s fleet, Thailand’s amphibious warfare capabilities are significantly enhanced, contributing to regional stability and national security.

Moreover, Thailand’s growing expertise in military vehicle production, as demonstrated by the deployment of the Chaiseri AWAVs, could lead to future exports and collaborations with international partners. By investing in advanced equipment like the First Win II, Thailand positions itself as a key player in the regional defense industry while showcasing its self-reliance in defense manufacturing. As the country continues to invest in defense capabilities and technological advancements, the addition of these AWAVs marks a significant milestone in Thailand’s military modernization efforts.
