AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man is charged in the murder of his father, who died four days after an attack that left him with severe head injuries, police said.

Nathen D. Moynihan, 27, was initially charged with felonious assault in a Feb. 20 attack at his father’s house on Harris Court near Vesper Street. But prosecutors added the murder charge after the 47-year-old father died Friday at Summa Akron City Hospital, police said.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.

A witness said Nathen Moynihan attacked his father with a blunt object, police said. Investigators did not identify the blunt object or offer a motive for the attack.

Shortly after the attack, officers found Moynihan walking on East Exchange Street near Cleveland Street. He was arrested and taken to the Summit County Jail.

Moynihan pleaded not guilty to the felonious assault charge and remains in custody on $1 million bond.

He will be arraigned on the murder charge March 15 in Akron Municipal Court, police said.
