Cleveland police in standoff with 2 males near downtown

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Police were involved in a standoff early Tuesday morning near downtown with two armed males in a vehicle.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area of St. Clair Avenue and Hamilton Avenue near East 23rd Street.

A SWAT unit was on the scene, according to police. WEWS Channel 5 reports a SWAT tank was brought in to ram the vehicle after two hours of unsuccessful negotiations and that shots had been fired.

Police did not release details on how or when the standoff started.
