Georgia man accused of putting grandmother in freezer to starve

Floyd County Police found Doris Cumming’s body late Thursday night in her Armuchee home with her grandson Robert Keith Tincher III.

Tincher was accused of murder, aggravated battery, and concealing another’s death. He is still in Rome. It is not clear if he has a lawyer that could speak on his behalf.

Cumming’s family believed that she had left the state. However, police became concerned when they didn’t hear from Cumming and reported that she may be missing.

According to police, Cumming was hurt in a December fall and Tincher took her home. Tincher is charged with criminal acts. He allegedly “heard and witnessed numerous bones breaking.” Tincher then wrapped Cumming in plastic bags and put her in a large freezer. The charges state that Tincher “acknowledged that her back was broken going into the freezer.” There was no provocation or altercation leading to the acts.

“From what we found, at that time, he believed that she was still breathing and had some movement when she was going in the freezer,” stated Floyd County Investigator Brittany Werner to WAGA-TV.

Tincher lived in the house with the body in the freezer for several months. Tincher moved the body to a storage unit in March after fearing that Cumming might have been found.

Werner stated that Tincher said he called 911 to inform police that he was wanted by the police because of terroristic threats against his wife in 2018.

Tincher also shared with investigators his deep love for his grandmother.

Werner said, “He said that she was the only member of his family who gave him the love, courtesy, and attention he required.”

Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy to determine Cumming’s cause of death and the time of his death.
