Man shot by off-duty police officer, arrested in connection to fatal shooting outside Cleveland bar

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 24-year-old man was shot dead early Friday morning in front of M&M’s Saloon in Cleveland, police said.

Derrick Yanetta suffered gunshot wounds to the chest. He was taken to MetroHealth where he died, Cleveland spokeswoman Jennifer Ciaccia said.

An Amsterdam, Ohio, police officer working a second job at the bar was not injured, she said.

Dominique Williams, 26, was arrested in connection to the shooting. He suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks by the off-duty officer, Ciaccia said.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 12000 block of Lorain Avenue. Yanetta was found on the sidewalk in front of the bar.

The Amsterdam police officer reported hearing gunfire coming from in front of the bar and found Yanetta on the ground and Williams running from the area.

The officer chased Williams while exchanging gunfire. He continued to flee and was arrested a short time later. He was taken to Fairview Hospital for his gunshot wound.

Homicide investigators, the Use of Deadly Force Investigation team and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiners Office responded to the scene.

The incident is under investigation.
