Things are brewing at the Cuyahoga County Strongsville library: Talk of the Towns

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – The Friends of the Strongsville Branch Library have partnered with local roaster Red Cedar Coffee to sell Library Lovers’ Brew at the library. A portion of the sales of each bag of coffee goes back to the Friends group that will provide funds for use towards the library and future library events and programming.

This fundraising promotion will continue through the entire year. Twelve-ounce bags of ground regular and decaf are $8.99 each. Stop in and pick up a special gift for yourself and a friend!

Donna Meyers, manager of the Strongsville branch, came up with the idea for this great library fundraiser working directly with the owners of Red Cedar on this partnership. They created a special blend of Library Lovers’ Brew with its own special label just for the library to sell.

Making a difference: Madison Wagner, 16, of Strongsville a sophomore at Gilmour Academy, has been named a Distinguished Finalist of The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for her impressive community service activities.

Madison has led students in a variety of projects to help the community through the “Make a Difference (M.A.D.) Club” she started when she was 13 at her elementary school, and later launched at her high school. Inspired to make a difference with her life after facing cancer as a young child, Madison’s clubs have hosted toiletry and clothing collections, prepared and delivered meals, farmed fresh produce for the hungry, and more.

Now in its 22nd year, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards represents the United States’ largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service. All public and private middle level and high schools in the country, as well as many youth organizations were eligible to select a student or member for these awards. Local Honorees were then reviewed by an independent judging panel, which selected State Honorees and Distinguished Finalists based on criteria including personal initiative, effort, impact and personal growth.

Since the program began in 1995, more than 115,000 young volunteers have been honored at the local, state and national level. The program also is conducted by Prudential subsidiaries in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Ireland, India, China and Brazil. In addition to granting its own awards, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program also distributes President’s Volunteer Service Awards to qualifying Local Honorees.
