Several hundred elected officials received “confirmations of membership” of the National Rally this weekend following a “malicious maneuver”, according to the Lepenist party which decided to file a complaint, as well as a Macronist deputy victim of usurpation. “We have received your support for the National Rally,” said the email received by “about 700 elected officials from all sides”, told Agence France-Presse the far-right party, according to which the membership forms have been filled in by jokers, “under a hidden IP”, thanks to the public data of the deputies which appear on the site of the Assembly.
“This is not a hack of our site, our database was not affected,” an RN spokesperson insisted. These membership requests, by check, then generated a confirmation email received by the elected officials. Among them, related Renaissance MP David Valence tweeted that he was going to file an impersonation complaint arguing that “the fight against Le Pen’s ideas continues”.
A smart guy therefore usurped my identity to register a pre-membership of the National Rally. I will file a complaint tomorrow with the police station of St-Dié-des-Vosges (article 226-4-1 of the penal code). The fight against the ideas of Le Pen continues! pic.twitter.com/0EsgatRjce
“The National Assembly will be able to stand alongside the deputies who choose to file a complaint,” the cabinet of the presidency of the Lower House told AFP, saying it was “following carefully” the case. For his part, the RN also intends to file a complaint for “obstructing the operation of an automated data processing system”.
The case created a stir among parliamentarians: several macronists wondered about “a report to the Cnil”, hesitating between “an idiot who had fun in his corner” or “a strategy to talk about the membership campaign of the National Rally”.
“Honestly, any 15-year-old could do it: the information on the documents is public and we can look up our dates of birth on Wikipedia,” observed a Socialist MP.
