Alberto Puig: “Others have wanted more the title of MotoGP Pedrosa”

“Rossi is costing to accept that their time has already past. Sometimes the forms that used to follow are not correct”

Alberto Puig, current head of the Repsol Honda MotoGP, has reviewed the current world championship in an interview for The avant-Garde. Among other things, the former pilot talks about Dani Pedrosa, who was his pupil. “Like, to be MotoGP champion would have had to assume some things that he has not made. In life nobody gives you anything. There have been others who have wanted more to win the title,” he says.

Puig did not have very clear the reason Pedrosa won the MotoGP World title, despite having spent her career in the Repsol Honda, riding the best bike on the grid. “I was with Dani butt until 2013; but in these last years, I honestly do not know very well what he has done. This year I worked with him, and I have seen a Dani different than he remembered”, says one who was his great supporter. For Puig, “you still have more than enough to be followed, because it has a lot of talent. With one hand, struggling a bit, it is a pilot to be in the top 5. But I am not interested in”.

The new season, with Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo to his orders, is another of the topics that reviewed in the interview. Puig had his more and his less with Lorenzo for years. “Nor do we have tried both, but my reference Lorenzo has changed with time, obviously. In the 250s, with Dani we went higher, but in MotoGP he gave a clear step above Pedrosa, won three World. At the professional level, respect is. Personally, I don’t know to fund your life, but the treatment we have had has been correct. No longer are dealing with a 14 year old boy, but with an adult who has had many experiences, good and bad -because George has suffered-and with that you can talk… For the team it is interesting and can bring good things,” he reflects.

Puig talks about the World title Marquez, who for the first time has been able to lead. “That Marc small who was a real animal on the bike it is today, but now with more experience and maturity. Marc is a antidivo, do not pretend to be someone you are not. Have the humility and the curiosity to listen: to learn and to respect. When it rises to the bike is a real killer, which is what it should be. It is a machine programmed to go to whole milk. And it puts you more than all the rest. He learns to save situations -with the elbow, the knee, to accept the risk more than others… so I don’t believe in luck. He tries to understand what to do in each moment, that is why it is the best”.

finally, the former pilot talks about the rivalry Marquez-Rossi. “Valentino has been a great pilot. You have all my respect. With the age, she is still with the desire and the non-acceptance of not being able to win, and with talent to go fast. But it is costing to accept that their time has already past. Sometimes the forms that used to follow are not correct. At no time have I seen Marquez out of orbit by doing actions with evil to Rossi; they were always incidents of the race. Respect to Rossi, but in life everything has its time. And like it or not, Marc is the number one. Sometimes one must stop and think. Marquez does not care at all the current opinion that trying to build from the environment of the Vale. On the contrary: we felt their weakness in their actions,” he concludes.
