Baby girl born premature after mother’s slaying has died

A baby girl born three months premature after her mother was fatally shot last year has died, authorities and family said.

The baby, named A’Miracle, developed pneumonia several weeks ago and died Thursday after being taken off life support, according to family members.

"It hurts so bad," said Crystal Jones, the baby’s grandmother.

Jones had cared for the baby since her 19-year-old daughter Parasha M. Beard was killed in September in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Beard was six months pregnant when she was shot in the neck. She was pronounced dead within an hour at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but doctors were able to save her unborn baby.

"Thank God that her baby that she was pregnant with Casinomaxi is surviving right now," Jones said at the time of the shooting. "Thank you God, have mercy on me."

But five months later, the baby was pronounced dead at 7:55 p.m. at Northwestern, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
