Cardiff Rugby has officially welcomed Welsh back-rower Dan Thomas to their team. The club has been busy during the off-season, also signing players like Callum Sheedy, Rory Jennings, Iwan Stephens, and Gabriel Hamer-Webb. Thomas, who is 30 years old, has spent seven seasons at Bristol Bears, where he played in 144 games.

Thomas expressed his excitement about joining Cardiff, stating that he had a great time at Bristol but was looking forward to representing such a great Welsh club. As a proud Welshman, the opportunity to return home and play for Cardiff was a significant factor in his decision. He also mentioned that he was impressed by Cardiff’s style of play and believes it aligns well with his own skills and playing style.

Having come through the Scarlets academy and later playing for Gloucester before moving to Bristol, Thomas brings a wealth of experience to Cardiff’s back-row. Head coach Matt Sherratt praised Thomas, highlighting his speed, dynamism, and ability to contribute on both attack and defense. Sherratt also mentioned Thomas’s motivation to prove himself in Wales and his willingness to mentor younger players in the squad.

Thomas is looking forward to the challenge of competing in the United Rugby Championship (URC) and facing different playing styles from various countries. His addition to the Cardiff squad adds depth and experience to the team’s back-row options, enhancing their competitiveness in the upcoming season. Fans can expect to see Thomas make a significant impact on the field as he aims to help Cardiff achieve success in the URC.
