Confusion about candidacy: Pence consultant contradicts media report

Will Mike Pence throw his hat into the race for the highest office in the US? According to a media report, the 63-year-old is said to have submitted documents for his candidacy for the US presidential elections. His advisor contradicts this in a tweet – which he deletes again.

Advisor to former US Vice President Mike Pence contradicts a media report about a Republican candidacy for the 2024 US presidential election. Pence did not submit any documents for a candidacy today, Pence advisor Davin O’Malley wrote on Twitter on Monday. A short time later, the short message service said that the tweet had been removed by the author.

The broadcaster Sky News had previously reported that the 63-year-old is throwing his hat into the race for the highest office in the United States for the Republicans. Pence’s candidacy would challenge former President Donald Trump. Because despite increasing criticism from his own ranks, Trump wants to return to the White House in 2024.

However, it is far from clear who the Republicans will actually send into the race in 2024. Traditionally, the candidacy is only decided in the election year in an often month-long party-internal pre-selection process in which several applicants from state to state compete for the nomination.
