Helsinki Airport is doubling its lounge facilities in response to a significant increase in demand from air travelers seeking more comfortable and enjoyable airport experiences. This expansion is part of a global trend where passengers, especially those on leisure trips, are increasingly opting for lounge services.

Nora Immonen, Finavia’s Head of Commercial Business at Helsinki Airport, emphasized that the growing popularity of lounges among air passengers is a global phenomenon, with demand for lounge facilities at Helsinki Airport rising sharply in recent years.

To meet this demand, Europe’s largest lounge operator, Swissport, will open a new Aspire lounge at gate 22 and renovate the existing lounge at gate 27. In addition, Finnair has unveiled a new two-section lounge near gate 21, increasing the lounge space by 1,500 square meters and adding 440 seats.

Immonen stated that the increase in leisure trips has led to a higher demand for premium airport experiences, prompting Helsinki Airport to enhance its services in line with travel trends. The renovated lounges aim to provide passengers with more opportunities to relax and enjoy their journey, ultimately leading to higher customer satisfaction.

After the renovations, Helsinki Airport will offer a total of 3,000 square meters of lounge space, ensuring that passengers have access to a variety of lounge services. The existing Aspire Lounge at gate 13, Plaza Premium Lounge at gate 40, and Finnair Lounge at gate 52 will continue to operate, providing passengers with a range of options for their pre-flight experience.

Immonen highlighted that the comprehensive lounge services, combined with new hotel and meeting services, will cater to the needs of both business and leisure passengers at Helsinki Airport. The goal of these expansions and upgrades is to provide passengers with a more pleasant and luxurious travel experience, aligning with the evolving needs of modern air travelers.
