Manuel Bompard proposes to Nupes to open "the discussion on the Europeans before the summer"

Sunday April 15 in the JDD, the coordinator of LFI Manuel Bompard proposed to his Nupes partners to open “the discussions on the European elections of 2024 before the summer”, saying he was ready to discuss a head of the environmental list .

“It would be a mistake to leave separated”, declared the faithful of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, while environmentalists have several times opposed an end of inadmissibility to rebellious requests. Asked about the possibility of lining up behind them, Manuel Bompard replied: “We would be crazy if the possibility of a common list failed for this reason. If environmentalists consider that the only option for a joint Nupes list is for them to drive it, let’s discuss it.”

The deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône judges that “with a common list, we can win this election and beat the far right and the macronists”. “I hear we wouldn’t agree on everything,” he adds, referring to ecologists and socialists, who are pro-European while communists and dissenters are eurosceptic. “But in the 650 measures of the June 2022 program, we had agreed on the European question,” he believes.

A “decisive choice for the future”

The Nupes agreement sealed in May 2022 stipulates that the left in power would apply its program by disobeying the European treaties if necessary on certain points, but without calling into question the framework of the European Union.

“Let’s open this discussion before the summer,” insists Manuel Bompard. “We can’t talk about Nupes Act II if our first decision is to go to the Europeans against each other”. In his eyes, “the choice for 2024 will be decisive for the future” and the presidential election of 2027, because “how to govern the country together if we are not able to carry out common fights at the European level? »

According to him, a program is possible on “the fight against fraud and tax evasion, against social dumping, for ecological bifurcation, for peasant agriculture that respects the environment”.
