The pension reform will apply to deputies as well as to officials of the Palais-Bourbon from September 1, announced this Wednesday, July 19 the office of the National Assembly, the highest collegiate body.
The office, which notably brings together the president, the vice-presidents and representatives of the political groups, has thus acted on the transposition of the main provisions of the reform adopted by forceps in the spring, a week after a similar decision by the senators.
It opens a gradual postponement “of the age of eligibility from 62 to 64 years” for the deputies as for the staff of the Assembly by providing “an increase of 3 months per generation”.
Another measure approved: the acceleration of the calendar to reach 43 contribution years in order to be able to receive a full pension.
The pension reform accelerates the transition from 42 annuities for a full pension today to 43 by 2027. The office has also recorded the possibility for Assembly staff to work until the age of 70, against 67 today.
The President of the Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet (Renaissance, presidential party), had announced that she wanted to “transpose” the reform as soon as it was promulgated.
“It was passed without difficulty,” two members of the office told AFP, despite “two votes against and one abstention”.
In 2017, the regime for deputies had already been “aligned with that of the state civil service” by abolishing the old double contribution system. Promised by candidate Macron, this reform came into force on January 1, 2018.
The MPs’ pension is calculated in proportion to the annuities acquired. After five years in office, his net monthly amount is 684 euros. Cumulative with other pensions, it increases when a deputy is re-elected.
In total, “the average net monthly amount of pensions liquidated in 2022, partly for certain deputies on the basis of the old system of double contributions, is 2,990 euros” per month, had specified the Assembly to AFP last February.
The office also raised the sensitive issue of deputies participating in banned demonstrations, a few days after the three majority leaders demanded sanctions against left-wing elected officials present at the banned rally in memory of Adama Traoré.
