RTL/ntv trend barometer: Energy is a topic that concerns many Germans

According to the RTL/ntv trend barometer, many people in Germany are concerned about the energy supply. For 68 percent, it is the most important issue, closely followed by the war in Ukraine. In the case of a direct chancellor election, most people would vote for Minister Habeck.

Gas shortages, energy saving, service life extensions, emergency plans – buzzwords like these are currently dominating the domestic political debate. But not only the parties are arguing about the right way to deal with the impending energy crisis. People in Germany are also very concerned with the topic, as the RTL and ntv trend barometer shows.

According to the Forsa survey, 68 percent of people consider energy and energy prices to be the most important topic at the moment. 61 percent answer the relevant question with the war in Ukraine, which was triggered by the Russian invasion at the end of February. On the other hand, the issues of climate and environment – in response to the heat waves and the devastating forest fires – fall: 31 percent consider them to be particularly important at the moment. Corona is still the most important topic for 16 percent. Only 5 percent name the federal government consisting of SPD, Greens and FDP.

There are hardly any changes in the Sunday question. The CDU and CSU are still the strongest parties, followed by the Greens and the SPD. If there were federal elections on Sunday, the Union would get 26 percent, as it has in the past two weeks. The Greens are also stagnating at 24 percent for the third week in a row. The SPD would therefore come to 19 percent – it loses one point.

The AfD can gain one point to 10 percent. FDP (6 percent), Left (5 percent) and other parties (10 percent) have not changed compared to the previous week. For the Liberals it is still the worst value since the general election, where they reached 11.5 percent. The proportion of non-voters and undecided is 22 percent.

According to the trend barometer, if the Federal Chancellor in Germany were to be elected directly, most people would vote for the Green Robert Habeck. 30 percent would make the economics minister head of government – he loses one point. Chancellor Olaf Scholz also loses a point – 25 percent would vote for the SPD politician. In third place is CDU leader Friedrich Merz. As in the previous week, the Union faction leader would get 17 percent.

Above all, Habeck can rely on the supporters of his party: 74 percent of Green voters would also vote for him. 62 percent of the supporters of the Social Democrats would choose Scholz. Merz, on the other hand, does not find a majority among Union supporters: he would only get 44 percent of them.
