Search for assassins: Israel kills armed Palestinians in raid

After numerous assassinations and assassination attempts by radical Palestinians, the Israeli military is looking for several fugitive suspects. During a raid on a refugee camp, a fight breaks out and several Palestinians are shot.

According to the military, several armed Palestinians were killed in a raid by the Israeli army in Jericho in the West Bank. The aim of the operation was to arrest two militant Palestinians who fled to the city a week ago after an attempted attack on Israeli civilians, the army said in a statement.

On January 28, two armed members of the Palestinian militant organization Hamas came to the entrance of a restaurant in the Israeli settlement of Vered Jericho. Around 30 civilians were staying there. However, jamming prevented victims.

On Monday night, soldiers were shot at during an operation in the Akabat Jabr refugee camp in Jericho governorate. They returned fire and hit several attackers. Among them are members of the cell that was involved in the attempted attack.

The security situation in Israel and the Palestinian territories had recently deteriorated further. A Palestinian gunman shot dead seven people in front of a synagogue in east Jerusalem on Friday a week ago, the day after a deadly raid by the Israeli army that left ten dead in the Palestinian city of Jenin in the West Bank.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 36 Palestinians have been killed in confrontations with the Israeli army or in their own attacks since the beginning of the year.
