After a barrage of racist and offensive tweets, the Red Sox have released Brett Netzer, a minor league player.

After a torrent of racist, homophobic, and offensive tweets, Brett Netzer, a Boston Red Sox minor league baseball player was fired.

Netzer, 25, has not played since 2019. A team spokesperson said that he was granted his release by the team on Saturday.

Netzer, in a series tweets, attacked Chaim Bloom, the Chief Baseball Officer of the team, calling him a “bad actor” as well as a “fraud” while also attacking his Jewish identity.

The Boston Globe team confirmed that the posts were his and not a hack.

He took aim at Bloom in one tweet Saturday for his support of Black Lives Matter (and the LGBTQ community)

Netzer made a mockery of transgender people in his posts. Netzer said in another post that Black people should “go back home and re-establish their true black culture.”

He also tweeted: “I am racist. I do sometimes make assumptions based on a persons race/ethnicity/culture. That is now over.

The Athletic’s Chad Jennings was the first to report his release after his incendiary posts.

Brendan Cellucci, a fellow Red Sox minor leaguer, was furious at his words.

He tweeted: “It’s safe for Red Sox fans to be shocked by the comments made by a former player.” While I can’t speak on behalf of the organization, I can say that the comments made by the player don’t reflect our reputation and standards. Respect and love are the foundation of our organization.

Netzer was a 2017 third-round selection. However, he has not been on the field since 2019. The 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to pandemic. Netzer was then placed on the restrictedof Portland Sea Dogs on May 4, 2021, for unknown reasons.
