The Vodacom Bulls are excited about the possibility of bringing back former Springbok center Jan Serfontein to Loftus Versfeld. Serfontein, who played for the Bulls until 2017 before moving to Montpellier, is eager to return to Pretoria. However, there might be a delay in his comeback as he is waiting for his French citizenship application to be approved, which could push his return to South African rugby to mid-2025.

According to reports, discussions to have Serfontein back in 2024 fell through due to the citizenship application process. But with the application nearing completion, there is hope that Serfontein will reunite with the Bulls once his contract with Montpellier expires in June 2025. Serfontein has expressed his desire to play for the Springboks again, highlighting the exposure he would get in South Africa compared to the French Top 14 league.

Despite not playing for the national team since 2017, a return to local rugby could give Serfontein the opportunity to earn a Springbok call-up once again. In addition to Serfontein, the Bulls are also keeping an eye on Bordeaux Begles tighthead prop Carlu Sadie and Stormers scrumhalf Paul de Wet, who is said to have already committed to joining the Bulls.

The addition of Serfontein, Sadie, and de Wet would bolster the Bulls squad, adding experience and depth to their roster. Serfontein’s return could bring a wealth of knowledge and skill to the team, while Sadie and de Wet could provide valuable contributions in their respective positions.

As the Bulls look to strengthen their squad for upcoming seasons, securing these players would be a significant step in their efforts to remain competitive in domestic and international competitions. With Serfontein’s potential return on the horizon and other talented players in their sights, the Bulls are positioning themselves to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of rugby.
