CL victory for Munich: FC Bayern goes into a long-distance duel with FC Barcelona

Impressive statement: The FC Bayern players are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Munich team clearly won at bottom FC Rosengard and thus qualified for the knockout round on the penultimate day of the group match.

The FC Bayern players have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the fifth time in a row. The efficient Munich team beat Swedish record champions FC Rosengard 4-0 (1-0). Because pursuers Benfica Lisbon lost 2: 6 (0: 2) against FC Barcelona in the parallel game in Group D, FCB is early in the knockout round.

The Brazilian Tainara (38th), national player Sydney Lohmann (66th), European champion Georgia Stanway (73rd) and Julia Landenberger (90th 1) scored in ice-cold Malmö for the second in the Bundesliga. In the last game against Benfica, there is a long-distance duel with Barcelona for the top of the group.

“It’s a deserved win,” said Bayern coach Alexander Straus: “After the second goal we played it much calmer and had full control of the game. I’m really proud of what the girls have shown throughout the first half of the season so far .” His team lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals last season and before that to Chelsea in the semi-finals. Bayern have never won the title.

Straus’ side are tied second behind Barca with 12 points from five games. However, the Spanish champions won the direct comparison with Bayern. Benfica (six points) and Rosengard (0) no longer have a chance of progressing. The Munich women tried to control the game at minus six degrees on the unpleasant artificial turf. After several good opportunities, Tainara scored from a corner, Rosengard only put a few pinpricks. Lohmann scored the second goal from close range, Stanway and Landenberger followed up.
