Cycling: Italian hopeful dies after crash during race

Jacopo Venzo, a 17-year-old Italian cyclist, has died following a fall during the first stage of the Junioren Rundfahrt in Austria, the European Cycling Union (UEC) announced on Saturday. “There are no words to describe this tragedy,” the UEC tweeted.

Bringing together more than 140 runners, the event reserved for juniors which was to end on Sunday has been canceled. This death comes five weeks after that, among professionals, of the Swiss Gino Mäder.

A member of the Bahrain-Victorious team, the latter died on June 16 at the age of 26, following a fall in a descent during the 5th stage of the Tour de Suisse.
