From inside the lines to out, Express-News staff writers Terrence Thomas and David Hinojosa take a look back and a look ahead at the high school sports landscape:

Figure this

51: Goals scored this season by Harlandale junior forward Ingrid Garcia, the ninth-most by an area girls player. Garcia, who reached the milestone with three goals in Tuesday’s 8-1 win over Southside, is only the ninth area girls player to record a 50-goal season.

350: Wins for Alamo Heights girls soccer coach Chris Sharp, who reached the mark during the Mules’ 3-0 victory over Marble Falls on Feb. 17. Sharp is 351-108-30 overall and is the area’s fourth-winningest girls coach behind Reagan’s Frankie Whitlock, Saint Mary’s Hall’s Brian Kaestner and former Madison coach Audrey Ambrose.

Odds and ends

National honor: Wagner guard Kiana Elexbet Williams was one of 24 girls selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic April 14 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It’s the second national showcase for Williams, a Stanford signee, who was also selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game on March 29 in Chicago.

Simply fab: Steele’s Jada Gardner was named to Volleyball magazine’s Fab 50 team, a list of the nation’s top 50 senior players. Gardner, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter/middle blocker who signed with Maryland, had 533 kills, 348 digs, 40 aces and 31.5 blocks.

One of the bests: Clemens’ Shelby O’Neal was picked to Prep Volleyball’s Frosh 59 list, which recognizes the nation’s top players in the Class of 2020. The All-Area Newcomer of the Year in the fall, O’Neal had 304 kills, 225 digs, 75½ blocks and 43 aces.
