NJSIAA state qualifier: Melise

PIAA 3A Northeast Regional qualifiers: Callahan, Feyrer, Gallagher

PIAA 2A Southeast Regional qualifiers: Fontanez, Nosal

Comments:  Fontanez, who stormed to the D-11 2A title with two falls and a major decision, has a rare honor: he is the only wrestler in Melise’s last 31 bouts that P’burg’s “Monster” has not pinned. (Melise edged Fontanez 2-1 in Bethlehem Holiday Classic final). Melise roared through Region 3 with three first-period pins (time elapsed: 3:58) and certainly has to be considered a major contender for a state championship. He is the #2 seed for the NJSIAA tournament. Fontanez certainly should fit into the same category post-regionals. Callahan avenged a loss a week ago to Feyrer with a 3-2 win in the D-11 3A final, and moves ahead of the Trojan. and a rematch seems likely at regionals. Callahan, still recovering from injury, is not in peak shape, but his athleticism and smarts could carry him to the Hershey podium. Oberly, fifth at Region 3 and much-improved, takes the open No. 5 slot.
