Leeds United U21 put on an impressive display as they secured a 3-1 victory over Stockport County U21 in the Premier League Cup encounter at the LNER Community Stadium in York.
The game started with both teams looking to create opportunities, but it was Stockport County who had the first chance with Marcus Kouam linking up with Cody Johnson, only for Saul Gardner’s effort to go over the crossbar.
Leeds responded with Harvey Vincent making a strong run down the wing, finding Louie Dudley whose cross was met by Connor Douglas, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
As the first half progressed, both teams had spells of possession but were unable to break the deadlock, with solid defending on display.
After the break, Leeds introduced Joe Snowdon and Connor Ferguson, with the latter winning a free kick on the edge of the box. Snowdon’s effort was saved by Max Metcalfe before Stockport took the lead through Daniel Adshead’s strike.
Leeds responded swiftly with Rhys Chadwick scoring a brilliant free kick to level the score. Jeremiah Mullen then put Leeds ahead with a powerful header from Chadwick’s corner.
Joe Richards sealed the victory for Leeds with a well-taken finish, making it 3-1 against Stockport. Despite Stockport’s efforts to claw back into the game, Leeds’ defense held firm, with goalkeeper Rory Mahady making crucial saves.
