Emilio Gonzalez, a professional golfer from Mexico, was disqualified from a PGA Tour event in his home country due to a rules violation of “serious misconduct.” The incident occurred during the second round of the World Wide Technology Championship at El Cardonal at Diamante. Gonzalez hit his tee shot into a desert area on the 15th hole, then hit a provisional ball and failed to make reasonable efforts to identify the original ball within the allotted three-minute search time. As a result, he continued to play the provisional ball, which is a violation of Rule 18.3c (3) and led to his disqualification from the tournament.

Gonzalez, who was playing on a sponsor’s exemption, had rounds of one-over 73 and one-under 71, missing the cut by two shots. Despite this disqualification, Gonzalez had a successful season on the Korn Ferry Tour with two top 10 finishes, seven top 25 finishes, and 16 cuts made. He also participated in the Houston Open on the PGA Tour, finishing tied for 74th place. Looking ahead, Gonzalez is scheduled to compete in the PGA Tour’s Q-School next month at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, where he will have the opportunity to earn a promotion to the Tour.
