PSG and Mbappé: it's open war

By scoring his team’s second goal in PSG’s friendly match against Le Havre on Friday (2-0 victory), Kylian Mbappé probably did not expect to find himself ostracized a few hours later. Paris Saint-Germain has decided not to include its striker for his summer tour of Japan and South Korea, even though his little brother Ethan is on the list.

The reason ? An increasingly untenable contractual situation for the capital club and a real explosion to come on the transfer market.

At the end of the contract in June 2024, the Parisian striker has an option to extend for an additional year, but he has expressed his intention not to activate it. Back to the wall, PSG does not want to find itself faced with a fait accompli and let the captain of the Blues go free, whose value is estimated to date at 180 million euros by Transfermarkt. In this perspective, the Parisian staff does not wish to lose face and is considering two options: sell Mbappé this summer to recover a significant transfer fee and rebuild his team accordingly, or convince him to extend by providing him with sporting guarantees.

Paris Saint-Germain, now coached by Luis Enrique, have tightened the screws, even if it concerns their major asset on the pitch. Present at PSG since 2017, Kylian Mbappé became last April the top scorer in the history of the club in Ligue 1. With 41 achievements last season, in parallel with his formidable World Cup, he was again present even if he still did not manage to win the Champions League.

Often critical of his sports management, Kylian Mbappé gave a layer of it in an interview with France Football at the beginning of the month. “I don’t know what PSG are missing, it’s not a question for me. We did what we could, period. You have to talk to the people who make the team, who organize the squad, who build this club. Me, I just try to do my job as well as possible. »

At the start of last season, Nasser al-Khelaïfi had already announced to Le Parisien his intention to be much more authoritarian in the face of the whims of his players. “Dream is one thing, reality another. Perhaps we should also change our slogan… Dream Bigger (dream bigger) is good, but today we must above all be realistic, we no longer want flashy, bling-bling, it’s the end of glitter. If the wait has been long, the president of PSG seems to have finally taken action.
