Cricket West Indies (CWI) recently announced the re-election of Azim Bassarath from Trinidad and Tobago as the vice president of its board of directors. Bassarath, who also serves as the president of the TT Cricket Board, was the sole candidate nominated during a Special Meeting of members convened on September 20.

During his previous term in office, Bassarath, along with CWI president Dr. Kishore Shallow, focused on making strides in T20 cricket. Now, with his re-election, he expressed his excitement to continue working towards progress in all international formats of the game. Bassarath emphasized his commitment to serving with integrity and respect for the process, aiming to uphold the best governance practices in West Indies cricket.

Bassarath’s re-election followed a legal challenge by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) in the High Court of Guyana, which led to his initial election being declared null and void. Despite CWI lodging an appeal, a decision was made to proceed with re-elections, resulting in Bassarath regaining his position uncontested.

Looking ahead, CWI will convene its next quarterly board meeting in Trinidad and Tobago on September 28. The meeting serves as an opportunity to foster unity among West Indies cricket stakeholders and drive the sport forward in the region and beyond.

It is crucial for the leadership of CWI to maintain transparency, integrity, and unity within the organization to ensure the continued growth and success of West Indies cricket. With Bassarath’s re-election, there is a sense of stability and continuity in the leadership, which bodes well for the future of the sport in the region. As stakeholders and fans eagerly anticipate the results and developments under the leadership of Dr. Kishore Shallow and Azim Bassarath, the focus remains on advancing the game and achieving excellence on the international stage.
