Robbie Keane Departs Maccabi Tel Aviv Manager Role After Successful Season

Former Premier League striker Robbie Keane has announced his departure from his role as Maccabi Tel Aviv manager after a successful year in charge. The former Republic of Ireland international led the club to the Israeli Premier League title in May and also guided them to the last-16 of the Europa Conference League.

Keane, who previously played for clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, faced criticism for his decision to work in Israel during the Israel-Gaza conflict. Despite this, he remained focused on his role as a football manager and expressed his dedication to the club upon his appointment in June 2023.

In a statement released on Maccabi Tel Aviv’s website, Keane expressed his gratitude to the owners, players, coaches, and fans for their support throughout the season. He highlighted the hard work and dedication of the team that led to their success in both the championship and the Toto Cup.

Keane’s departure comes as a surprise to many, as he had initially signed a two-year deal with the club. However, he stated that his decision to leave was a difficult one and wished the club the best of luck in their future endeavors, including the upcoming Champions League campaign and the new season ahead.
