Women's Champions League: PSG loses to Bayern Munich, Paris FC beaten by Chelsea

It’s a dark day for the Parisian women’s teams in the Champions League. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) lost at home against Bayern Munich (0-1), Thursday, November 23, at the Jean-Bouin stadium, while Paris Football Club suffered a severe defeat in London against Chelsea (4- 1).

PSG, which lost against Ajax Amsterdam last week, is last in its group which also includes AS Roma. Bayern, who conceded a draw against Roma last week, temporarily go first.

Same scenario for the women of Paris FC who, with zero points, are in last place in a group D dominated by the Swedes of Häcken (6 points), followed by Chelsea (4 points) and the Spaniards of Real Madrid (1 point).

PSG too feverish

If they had several opportunities to approach the opposing goals, the PSG players were too feverish defensively to hope to win against the Munich women who mastered their subject. Feverish, like this disagreement in the 7th minute, when Jade Le Guilly almost deceived goalkeeper Katarzyna Kiedrzynek with a back header, stopped at the last minute on the line, in two stages.

It was on a free kick taken at the far post and after a header from captain Glodis Perla Viggosdottir that Magdalena Eriksson opened the scoring, alone in front of the goal (21st).

Holder, striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto tried her luck several times (10th, 36th, 37th), without success. The one who is waiting to return to her best level after a serious injury to her right knee came out at half-time.

The captain, Grace Geyoro, Tabitha Chawinga and Laurina Fazer tried to break through the German defense, but it resisted. Bayern even came close to knocking out Paris (70th, 88th).

Debacle for the PFC

The defeat is even more difficult for the PFC. The waking dream in qualifying of the Ile-de-France women, defeaters of Arsenal then Wolfsburg, did not find an extension in the group stage, which they are playing for the first time since the 2017 merger with FCF Juvisy.

The players could not resist Chelsea’s fatal scorer, Sam Kerr, credited with a hat-trick. After a first goal from Kerr (30th minute), Théa Greboval managed to equalize from a corner (38th, 1-1). But Kerr then exhausted them (48th, 55th) before Sophie Ingle widened the gap a little further at the very end of the match (90th 1).

For the partners of the captain, Gaëtane Thiney, who close Group D far behind Häcken, who beat them 2-1 last week, hope can only remain in the event of victory in the next match, on December 14 at home against Real Madrid.
