Texas state authorities are trying to find the motives for the two violent incidents that killed 16 people over the weekend. In the case of the massive hit-and-run in the city of Brownsville, on the border with Mexico, in which 7 people died and another 6 were injured, the author is admitted to a medical center, where different analyzes have been performed to try to determine the presence of drugs or alcohol in your body. Most of the fatalities – if not all – are immigrants of Venezuelan nationality.
The events took place at 8:30 in the morning, when an SUV rammed a bus stop full of people. At first, there was speculation about a possible racist or xenophobic motivation, since the massacre took place near the Ozanam shelter for immigrants and homeless people. But, for the moment, there are no indications that this was the case. According to some information, most of the victims could be of Venezuelan nationality.
Brownsville is an all-Latino city, located on the US side of the border, across from Mexico’s Matamoros, where 94% of the population defines themselves as “Hispanic” or “Latino.”
Where there could be some kind of motivation is in the killing of 9 people – including the perpetrator – that took place on Saturday night on the outskirts of Dallas, also in Texas, although 700 kilometers from Brownsville. The authorities have released the name of the murderer, who was killed by law enforcement when he was massacring customers at a shopping center with a semi-automatic rifle where, paradoxically, there is a store that advocates the free possession of weapons and he even sells T-shirts with murder jokes on them.
His name is Mauricio García, he is 33 years old and, according to some information, he could have neo-Nazi sympathies. The Dallas massacre is the second largest in the United States so far this year, after the one that occurred in January in Monterey Park, California, in which 11 people died.
