How to see the Oregon Shakespeare Festival on the cheap

Seeing the world-renowned Oregon Shakespeare festival can get expensive. Not only did the festival raise ticket prices for the 2017 season, but lodging and dining in Ashland can get pricey as well.

But there is another way. With a little savvy travel planning – and some flexibility – you can see the festival of Shakespeare classics and new works without completely breaking the bank. From ticket specials to affordable lodging to inexpensive dining, there are cheaper ways to go.

It could be well worth it to see another season of plays at the celebrated festival. You can find schedules and information about the current season of shows at osfashland.org, but you can also read some of our previous coverage:

10 things to do in Ashland, other than the Oregon Shakespeare Festival

The Green Show

There’s no simpler way to get your Shakespeare fix cheap than at the festival’s popular Green Show. With free admission to audiences of all ages, the 45-minute performance runs Deneme Bonusu before each summertime Elizabethan Theatre show, taking place on the Bricks – an open-air space between the Elizabethan and Angus Bowmar theaters. All you need to do is show up.

Ticket specials

Festival organizers offer several specials on tickets, which go some way to help ease the pain of this season’s increase in price. There are weekly web specials, military specials, family days and other offers, like rush tickets sold an hour before curtain and the flex pass that offers five tickets for $175.

Lodging

If you’re looking to save a few bucks on lodging, bear in mind that you don’t need to stay at the upper or even mid-range hotels to get some rest in Ashland. The Ashland Hostel and Ashland Commons offer hostel and dorm-style lodging, and there are plenty of budget motels in the area as well. And, this being Oregon, you can always stay at a campground or RV resort nearby.

Cheap eats

Breakfast, lunch and dinner don’t need to break the bank. Downtown Ashland is full of cheap eats: try pizza by the slice at Martolli’s Pizza, affordable pub fare and snacks at Caldera Tap House, healthy meals at the Greenleaf Restaurant and a solid $15 fixed-price lunch at New Sammy’s Cowboy Bistro.
