Trump announces the departure at the end of the year of his chief of staff John Kelly

The president of the USA, Donald Trump, announced Friday that the director of the Budget Office of the White House, Mick Mulvaney, will occupy temporarily the post of chief of staff of the White House in replacement of retired general John Kelly.

“I Am delighted to announce that Mick Mulvaney, director of the Budget Office of the White House, will be appointed chief of staff to acting, replacing John Kelly, who has served our country with distinction,” wrote Trump on the social network Twitter.

“Mick has done an outstanding job in the Administration. I’m looking forward to working with him in his new position, while we continue to make the U.S. GREAT AGAIN! John will stay until the end of the year. It’s a GREAT PATRIOT and I want to personally thank you for your service!”, added.

In statements to journalists, an official of high rank of Administration pointed out that “there is no limit of time” in the mandate of Mulvaney as chief of staff. “He is the chief of Cabinet for interim, which means that is the chief of staff. He was elected because the president likes him, they are” well, underlined the source.

Asked about the reason for which he was appointed on a temporary basis, the source remarked that “that is what the president wants”.

The official mentioned the past experience of Mulvaney as a legislator: “you Know the Congress,” stressed the manager who revealed that the future chief of staff was at the White House today, where he met with Trump. “Mick was here working on things of budget. Met (Mulvaney and Trump) face-to-face this morning,” said the manager.

Mulvaney will replace from 1 January 2019 Kelly, who had held the position since July of 2017.

Trump revealed on Saturday that Kelly will leave the post at the end of the year after months of tensions between the president and the retired general, who tried to impose discipline in the West Wing of the White House, but that could not contain the controversial statements and tweets of the president.

The obama Administration official said Saturday that Kelly is pleased by the appointment of Mulvaney and reiterated that the retired general will remain in the position until the end of the year.

Before Kelly, the position was occupied by Reince Priebus, former president of the Republican Party and who also had disagreements with the contractor.

Shortly after the announcement of Trump’s own Mulvaney responded on Twitter that “it is a tremendous honor”: “I want to work with the President and all of the equipment you’re Going to be a great 2019!”.

After it was known a week ago the departure of Kelly, the pools had increased in the last few days on who would be their substitute, and between the different options about which we had speculated in the media had published the name Mulvaney.

In February of 2017, Mulvaney became the director of the Budget Office of the White House, a position from which it has designed the budget that the president presented to Congress.

Previously, between 2011 and 2016, Mulvaney took a seat in the House of Representatives representing a district of South Carolina, and became one of the founders of the Freedom Caucus (Caucus of Freedom), a group of congressmen ultraconservatives.

Mulvaney achieved special notoriety in November last year, when Trump appointed him to direct the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection (CFPB) while the outgoing head, Leandra English, claimed to follow the command.

The case ended up in court and a judge ruled in favor of Mulvaney, who was able to continue in charge of the CFBP, the agency created after the financial reform of the former president Barack Obama (2009-2017).

The Administration official pointed out that Mulvaney will be replaced by Russell Voight, now responsible for the CFPB, at the head of the Budget Office of the White House.
