Firefighters put training to use after truck pulls wires down

LEBANON – A box truck pulled down an electric line on Main Street on Thursday, giving local firefighters a chance to put recent training into action.

The truck was reportedly backing out of a lot at 1:23 p.m. when it pulled down the electric service line going from a pole to a building. There were no reported injuries.

On Monday, firefighters from five area departments, including the borough’s fire company, took part in training on the dangers of electrocution led by Al Onwin Saharic, a retired JCP&L employee, who started the training program in 1961. He is the father of borough Fire Chief Kevin Saharic.

JCP&L responded to the downed wire on Thursday and had a crew repair the service.

Also responding on Thursday were the State Police and Clinton Rescue Squad.

Other departments that took part in Monday’s training were the Clinton Fire Department, Annandale Hose Company, High Bridge Fire Department and Quakertown Fire Department.
