Man, 27, leads Santa Rosa police on chase after alleged shooting

A man suspected of shooting at another man Thursday morning led police on a car chase through northeast Santa Rosa before he was found hiding in a shed on King Street, Santa Rosa police reported.

Joseph Vincent Kauth, 27, of Santa Rosa was arrested in connection with a shot fired at about 8:20 a.m. at a 50-year-old man with whom Kauth was allegedly arguing in the 200 block of Gilbert Drive, Sgt. David Linscomb said in a press release.

The shot, fired from inside a white Cadillac, hit the bumper of a vehicle parked on the street.

An officer stopped the Cadillac near the intersection of Mervyn Pasgol Avenue and Slater Street, then chased it to the area of Chanate Road and Terra Linda Drive, before doubling back through residential neighborhoods to College Avenue where police lost sight of the vehicle.

Residents helped police locate the Cadillac in a Beaver Street driveway north of College Avenue. Kauth apparently ran from the car, jumped a back yard fence and hid in the shed, Linscomb said.

A loaded pistol believed used in the shooting was found on Chanate Road near Humboldt Street.

Kauth was jailed on suspicion of assault with a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, vandalism, felony evading police and negligent discharge of a firearm.
