Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Under the motto “Together for Peace”, the German War Graves Commission is celebrating the national day of mourning on Sunday. In Magdeburg there is a central hour of remembrance in the plenary hall of the state parliament. All the dead of the wars and the victims of the tyranny are commemorated there. The national day of mourning this year is under the impression of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, as it was said in advance. It shows in a shocking way that peace cannot be taken for granted. The historian and publicist Michael Wolffsohn is to hold the commemorative speech in the state parliament, and Vice President Anne-Marie Keding will speak in memory of the dead.

After the commemoration, a wreath-laying ceremony is planned at the West Cemetery in Magdeburg. Commemorative hours and wreath layings are planned nationwide, for example in Halle, Wittenberg, Dessau-Roßlau, Weißenfels and Stendal.
