The president of LR Eric Ciotti will ask Emmanuel Macron for a referendum on immigration on Wednesday during a meeting of the head of state with the leaders of the parties, he announced Sunday in Le Cannet, where he castigated “the indecency” by Gérald Darmanin and reiterated his support for Laurent Wauquiez.
“We must give the floor back to the people without delay through the referendum!”, Proclaimed the number one of the Les Républicains party for his political comeback in front of nearly 2,000 people, in a room where he had withdrawn due to bad weather in the Alpes-Maritimes.
In his stronghold, Mr. Ciotti entered to the sound of “Lacs du Connemara”, the title of Michel Sardou recently criticized by the singer Juliette Armanet who said in particular: “It’s on the right, nothing is going”.
He was accompanied by the main tenors of the Republicans, including Laurent Wauquiez, Bruno Retailleau or Rachida Dati.
In a very right-wing speech on the regal and liberal on the economy, Eric Ciotti denounced in turn the current “debacle” of hospitals, schools, public finances and “the republican order”, as well as the ” ravages” of immigration.
In front of his supporters, the deputy unveiled the proposals he will present on Wednesday to Emmanuel Macron, who has invited all the political parties to a large meeting in order to work on decisions that go beyond the divisions.
He will first of all ask for a referendum on the proposed constitutional law on immigration tabled by his party in the spring.
“We will not play the first violins of the symphony of immobility!”, warned Eric Ciotti.
The boss of the right will also ask for the strengthening of security and justice, the abolition of all “rights for illegal immigrants”, the compulsory uniform at school and college, the abolition of allowances for “parents with failed in their duties”.
Competed by the simultaneous political return of the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin to Roubaix, who no longer hides his ambitions for 2027, Mr. Ciotti tackled without quoting the ex-LR, dubbed by Nicolas Sarkozy.
“Before thinking about succession, let them think about governing!” to the gravity of the moment”.
In a barely veiled response to Mr. Sarkozy who expressed doubts about Laurent Wauquiez’s strategy, Mr. Ciotti reiterated his support for the president of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
“Hope, dear Laurent, I repeat it, with force, you embody it by your talent, your vision and your courage”, he assured.
