A woman in Brandenburg experiences a nasty surprise while doing her laundry every day: her washing machine explodes and catches on fire. The 38-year-old and her son are slightly injured and treated as an outpatient.
When a 38-year-old wanted to do her laundry in Brandenburg, the machine exploded and caught fire. The terraced house in Walsleben was uninhabitable afterwards, but not so badly damaged that the statics were affected, said a police spokesman. The damage was estimated at 100,000 euros.
It was mainly due to the heavy smoke, said the police spokesman. “It didn’t blow half the house away.” The washing machine didn’t burst into lots of debris either. The tenant of the house switched on her washing machine in the hallway under a staircase on Tuesday. Then there was a bang and the device started to burn, the police spokesman said. A technical defect is suspected as the trigger.
The washing machine was an older model. “It must have been a few days old,” said the spokesman. The woman’s landlord and neighbor began fighting the flames with a fire extinguisher. Then firefighters were finally able to extinguish the fire. The 38-year-old and her son were slightly injured and treated as an outpatient because they had inhaled smoke gas.
