Ribnitz-Damgarten (dpa/mv) – The planned holiday resort on the Pütnitz peninsula near Ribnitz-Damgarten has cleared another hurdle. The city council of the 16,000-inhabitant community decided that a development plan should be drawn up for the million-dollar project. “There were no dissenting votes,” Mayor Thomas Huth said on Thursday morning when asked. 14 city officials voted yes on Wednesday evening, six abstained, five were excused.

Development plan No. 109 “Special area for tourist development on the Pütnitz peninsula” provides for the tourist use of a former military site. It covers an area of 250 hectares, which is the size of 350 football pitches. The total investment is estimated at around 350 million euros. According to Huth’s estimate, a legally binding B-Plan could be available in 2024 at the earliest. The main investor would be the holiday park operator Center Parcs, which already has six facilities in Germany.

Huth spoke of a good and constructive mood in the city council meeting, in which questions and concerns about the financial impact were also articulated. In times when almost all prices are changing and inflation is high, that is also legitimate. Huth announced a public information event on site on Saturday, November 12th.
