Two people are killed and another seriously injured in a knife attack in Ludwigshafen. The alleged perpetrator was shot and seriously injured during the arrest, says a spokeswoman for the Rheinpfalz police headquarters.
Two people were killed in a knife attack on the street in Ludwigshafen, Rhineland-Palatinate, on Tuesday. Alarmed police officers shot at the alleged perpetrator, as a police spokeswoman said. The man was seriously injured – he was arrested.
The background to the fact is so far unclear. The investigation went in all directions, said the spokeswoman. Further details about the case and the crime scenes were not initially clear. The police had initially announced that the officials had been alerted to a knife attack in the Oggersheim district. It was shot.
A police spokeswoman said the suspect initially fled. A patrol took up the pursuit and was able to face the man. In doing so, he was shot. It was unclear how serious the injuries were.
“There is no danger,” writes the Rhineland-Palatinate police headquarters on Twitter. “Please avoid the area so as not to hinder our measures. We’ll report back.” A witness contact point has been set up, according to another post. It is located on Comeniusstrasse near the Görtz community center/bakery.
