The Civil Guard has arrested a 44-year-old man on Monday for shooting a family with children with a shotgun in Reinosa (Cantabria) after starting a traffic discussion.

The events occurred last Saturday. The armed institute received a notice of a shot at a family, with children, who were on the sidewalk in a street in the Cantabrian municipality at around 11:20 p.m.

The agents at the scene confirmed the existence of a projectile impact on a vehicle parked on the road, where those affected were.

After obtaining the testimony of different witnesses, the agents came to the conclusion that the detainee had a traffic discussion and left, only to return later with a hidden long weapon. Once located on the opposite sidewalk, he pointed it at a man with whom he had had an argument moments before.

After opening fire, the bullet hit a parked vehicle, and the suspect reloaded the weapon and threatened the other man with it before leaving the place.

The arrested man, a native of Ecuador, has accepted his right not to testify and the magistrate, with a favorable report from the public prosecutor, has agreed to his release a few hours after his arrest, with a ban on entering and residing in Reinosa, they have reported to Europa Press judicial sources.

The judge has also decreed removal and prohibition of communication of the suspect with the complainants -two men from the same family with whom he argued-, prohibition of possession and use of weapons, and intervention of the same if he had them.

He was arrested for alleged crimes of attempted homicide, illegal possession of weapons and another one against road safety, when driving a car despite having the driving license withdrawn, according to the Benemérita.
