24 people have died when a minibus in which they were traveling down a ravine on a road in the province of Azilal, in central Morocco, plunged, local authorities reported this Sunday.

According to the same sources, the vehicle was heading to the weekly souk in the town of Demnat when the driver lost control over a curve on regional road number 302 at the level of the village of Akhachane, in the municipality of Boulakhlaf, and fell into a ravine.

Once alerted, the local authorities and members of the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection went to the scene of the event to take the necessary measures, the sources said, adding that an investigation was opened, under the supervision of the prosecutor, to determine the causes of the accident.

Several local media published photos of the vehicle that was completely destroyed at the bottom of the ravine.
