Hannover (dpa / lby) – With a home win against his ex-club, Hannover’s coach Stefan Leitl wants to establish himself at the top with his new team. “It’s a huge opportunity for us. With a win we’ll be in the top half of the table,” said Leitl before the game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / Sky). “Self-confidence increases with victories. Then you can push development faster,” said Leitl on Friday, describing the current situation in the 96ers, who recently had two wins in a row.

Leitl made no secret of the fact that it was “of course a special game” for him. “The time in Fürth was something special for me – if only because I was a coach there for three and a half years. That’s rather atypical in today’s football business,” Leitl said at the beginning of the week.

He expects a difficult game against the first division relegated, even if the Franks are so far without a win. “We don’t judge the place in the table, but the game performance,” said Leitl, who sees a lot of potential in his former team. But he was also satisfied with the performance of his team in the end. “I think we’ve already taken a lot of good steps and that you can see on the pitch how we want to play,” said Leitl, adding: “I think we’re at least two points short.”
