Météo-France alerted on July 11 to the weather risks that several departments would face in the evening: 26 departments were thus placed on orange vigilance for storms and heat waves. Despite the heavy damage caused by the violence of the weather, Internet users, amateurs and photographers alike, saw the opportunity to immortalize this moment by taking a few shots.

The Bas-Rhin, placed in orange vigilance, could see many lightnings tearing the sky during the evening, as in Rossfeld.

In the Haut-Rhin, placed on red alert, it is the city of Strasbourg that gets caught up in the game of stormy shots, the photographer playing on the integration of lightning in an urban environment.

The stormy episode made it possible to immortalize other original shots, as here in Mulhouse, on the Rhône-Rhine canal, mixing the Fonderie bridge with the stormy stripe in the background.

One word cropped up repeatedly on social media during the evening of July 11: mammatus. This term refers to cloud formations in the sky after a thunderstorm has passed. They are an extension of the already known cumulonimbus type clouds. Although rare, mammatus are recognizable by their multiple nipple-like pouches, hence their name. Phenomenon captured by Internet users for the pleasure of the eyes.
