The Sasemar 101 Maritime Rescue plane has located around 12:00 this Monday a cayuco more than 130 kilometers south of the island of Gran Canaria and in which they have rescued 86 people of sub-Saharan origin –80 men and six women –, according to sources from the institutional entity to Europa Press.

Specifically, the Salvage plane has alerted about the sighting of the vessel after 12:00 hours, indicating that it was 71 miles (131.49 kilometers) south of the island of Gran Canaria, and then activating the Caliope guardmarine that has proceeded to the rescue of 86 people.

Until the guardamar has reached the coordinates where the cayuco was, the merchant ship that was in the area, the MSC Marta, has been giving leeway to the canoe.

In a first notice it was indicated that the cayuco could be the one that has been looking for several days with some 200 people after leaving Senegal and that it has involved the activation of air rescue means, as well as the radio warning to all navigating vessels by the south of the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Finally, the rescued boat had 86 sub-Saharans on board.
