Cologne (dpa / lnw) – Against the backdrop of Cologne Cathedral, around 200 participants formed human towers as high as a house on Monday. Members of the human tower association Castellers de la Vila de Gràcia from Cologne’s partner city Barcelona climbed one meter high in various formations. The Catalan “Castells” have been an intangible UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010. The action on the initiative of the association for the promotion of the Cologne-Barcelona town twinning is intended to symbolize the cohesion of the people from the twin towns, as the city of Cologne announced.

The Catalan tower builders were supported by a few previously instructed members of the “Altstädter Köln” carnival club. They visited Barcelona in 2019 to introduce the people there to the Rhenish carnival, which also has World Heritage status.
