The Popular Party’s campaign slogan for the general elections on July 23 has generated a multitude of reactions: from those who praise the originality of the proposal to those who threaten to boycott it. Among the latter, RTVE has slipped in this Friday, sending a notice by letter to the PP in which it requests that it “immediately desist” from its intention to register the Verano azul PP brand.

The party of Alberto Núñez-Feijóo presented this Thursday on a bizarre artificial beach recreated in a sports center in Madrid, and with his spokesman Borja Sémper barefoot, his new campaign for the elections. The idea: to turn the next few weeks into a blue summer, even to the rhythm of the mythical tune from the 80s summer series created by Antonio Mercero for RTVE.

RTVE, owner of the rights to the Verano azul series, has warned the PP in a letter that it “reserves the right to present the corresponding opposition to the application” for the registration of the Verano azul PP trademark, and alleges that the reference of the slogan violates the Trademark Law since “there is a risk of confusion in the public, which includes the risk of association with the previous mark”.

The references to the Verano azul series in the PP video are not limited to the name or the song, but also include the mythical bike rides and even the Balcón de Europa in Nerja, characteristic of Mercero’s production.
