Local media had proclaimed a victory of Movement for Justice (Tehreek-e-Insaf/PTI). The founder of movement is former cricket player Imran Khan. However, state television had also reported that only 18 percent of votes had been counted. The Electoral commission of Pakistan has not yet issued an official election result.
Even during election campaign in Pakistan accusation was circulating that army was trying to influence election. In particular, representatives of Government party PML-N of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif complained of a targeted campaign by military.
