There are two towns in Spain that are separated by hundreds of kilometers and that share a peculiarity: they are the two towns with the shortest names in the country. Their place names are made up of only two letters, which in one case are two vowels.
Ea is a small coastal town located north of Vizcaya, about 50 kilometers from Bilbao. The municipality includes three population centers, Ea, Natxitua and Bedarona, belonging to the Busturialdea region.
The Basque Country tourism website indicates that Ea has 843 inhabitants and a small beach. Fishing is the most important activity of the place.
Among the attractions of the area are its town center and its Romanesque-style bridges. You can also visit a couple of churches: that of San Juan Bautista is in the Renaissance style and that of Santa María de Jesús is in the Baroque style. Other points of interest are its mill and its forge.
Ye is a town found in the Canary Islands. It belongs to the municipality of Haría, located in the north of Lanzarote. The town is on the slopes of the La Corona volcano and a few kilometers from Órzola, the only port that gives access to La Graciosa.
The island’s website indicates that in this area, with a long agricultural tradition, you can taste some of the best Lanzarote wines. It also stands out that it has several routes that can be done on foot or by bicycle to enjoy its unique landscapes.
Ea and Ye are at the top of the list of the towns with the shortest names in Spain. There are others whose place names have three letters: Foz (Lugo), Teo (La Coruña), Tui (Pontevedra), Mos (Pontevedra), Vic (Barcelona), Ibi (Alicante) and Sax (Alicante).
